The Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) is a Government Agency that was formed on 1^st April 2003 following the merger of the Vehicle Inspectorate and Traffic Area Network division of the Department of Transport.

Under the Codes of Practice formulated between the Department of Transport and the Motor Industry, it is the responsibility of the manufacturers to inform the Vehicle Inspectorate when substantial evidence of a safety defect that requires remedial attention has been confirmed. Additionally, evidence may be presented to the manufacturers by the Vehicle Inspectorate as a result of investigations into accidents and safety defects which have been bought to their attention from other sources.
